An operating system's startup list is a good means of infiltration for Trojans. If the user can't be fooled to run a suspicious item, the system can be fooled to run it automatically, without the user's knowledge. This is where StartEd comes in. It lets you know which programs are set to launch automatically when the system starts up and it can also tell you if there are Trojans among them. What's more, the software gives you the possibility of disposing of any Trojan infections.

StartEd is available in free and paid versions and it works on all popular Windows platforms. It can be installed in just a few minutes, without encountering any confusing options along the way. Also, there is no need to prepare any prerequisite tools and you won't notice any significant impact on your computer's performance.

Auto-run programs are displayed in a table, along with their paths, sizes and other details. You can prevent them from starting automatically in the future, by simply un-ticking their corresponding check boxes. Each entry is color-coded, to indicate that it is either an essential item, a new or obsolete one or a Trojan Horse.

Besides deactivating auto-run programs, you can also look them up on Google, with a single click, if you need to make sure that it's a threat or not. Additionally, the software allows you to back up and restore individual items and delete them if they are identified as threats. On the other hand, if a program is safe and it's something you use often, you may create a shortcut for that program on your desktop just as fast.

StartEd provides you with a similar table of contents for services as well. You can find them on a separate tab, where they are color coded the same way. The software allows you to start and stop individual services, look them up and delete them if necessary.

Pros

You can enable and disable individual auto-start items. The software can help you identify Trojans among auto-start programs. What's more, it provides you with the means of verifying if they are threats and it allows you to delete them right away.

Cons

Certain features are locked in the free versions. With StartEd on your computer, no Trojan will be able to infiltrate your system's auto-start list.
